KEYNOTE - Changing Perspectives: Seeing Students in a Different Light

One of the greatest gifts of neuroscience is the affirmation of neuroplasticity - that the brain can change lifelong. This provides new hope for us as educators, as we often struggle to engage our students in a meaningful way.

Family dynamics, social relationships, the ability to handle stress - these are just a few factors that can impede a student’s potential for optimal performance. Children who appear to be unmotivated in school, or who display behaviour that needs to be addressed, are often struggling with issues that are not entirely visible. Remarkably, given that the brain can be rewired, the way in which a teacher responds to a student having difficulties can be a game changer.

The solution for developing resilient young people is simpler than you think. Sharing some of the most illuminating stories, examples, ideas, and insights from 25 years of working with students and their families, Louise Favaro will show that in our profession, we are not just developing lifelong learners, we are developing people for life.
